Part-Time Freight Handler

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Join our dynamic team as a Part-Time Freight Handler, where you will play a vital role in ensuring efficient freight movement across the dock area to facilitate loading onto trailers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
In this role, you will:
- Operate various motorized and manual equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks to handle freight.
- Verify that documentation aligns with the freight details, including type, weight, and hazardous materials, using our current electronic or manual system.
- Secure freight within trailers using the right tools and supplies like pallets, straps, and ropes.
- Assist in recouping and repairing any damaged freight when necessary.
- Complete and verify all required documentation and reports.
- Provide assistance to customers with freight and documentation needs.
- Perform hostling duties as needed.
- Follow all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies to maintain a safe work environment.
- Carry out additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Previous experience in warehousing, freight handling, or forklift operation is preferred.
- Experience with hostler/yard mule duties is a plus.
- Ability to count and perform basic math functions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Physical capacity to lift and carry freight of varying weights multiple times weekly, handle dock plates weighing around 100 pounds, and open trailer doors requiring about 75 pounds of lift force.
- Ability to bend, twist, squat, and push/pull freight throughout the shift.
- Capability to work both independently and as a part of a team.
- Previous experience in dock/warehouse settings is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Be prepared to work in a dock environment with exposure to various weather conditions, including exhaust, dust, and noise. Working hours may vary based on operational needs, and you will often have contact with service center personnel in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Shift Time: 1700 - 2100.

Starting Rate of Pay: $20.54 / hour.
