Freight Road Driver

Job Summary of Freight Road Driver:

In the role of a Freight Road Driver, the main function is to pick up and drop off trailers between Service Centers and turn-point locations using tractor-trailer combinations. A Freight Road Driver is primarily responsible for moving goods over extended distances, commonly between distribution centers, warehouses, or terminals, ensuring prompt and safe delivery. This position includes driving commercial vehicles, such as trucks, tractor-trailers, or delivery vans, to various destinations.

Responsibilities of Freight Road Driver:

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles (and triples, where applicable).
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Maintain accurate daily logs.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate with dispatch (e.g. delays, arrivals, equipment problems), as required.
• May be required to perform chaining of vehicle tires.May be required to perform job duties of a city driver or a dock employee where operationally necessary.
• Load and unload freight as required.
• Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualification of Freight Road Driver:

• The minimum requirement is a Class A CDL, along with endorsements for double/triple trailers, hazardous cargo, and tanks
• Authorization for automatic transmission restriction on commercial driver's license granted.
• A minimum of 1 year of recent experience is necessary, or the successful conclusion of the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• The Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must adhere to the acceptable hiring guidelines.
• Skilled in coupling and uncoupling sets of trailers, with each operation necessitating an estimated 100-pound lift force, performed several times daily.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck.
• Exhibiting the skill to follow directions accurately and complete necessary training programs.
• Aptitude for working alone or in a team environment.
• Displays willingness to take the lead.

Working Conditions of Freight Road Driver:

• Journey extended distances non-stop, adapting to different types of road networks and weather variations.
• Being subjected to high levels of noise and vibration for extended periods can be harmful to both the mind and body
• Contact with dust and diesel pollutants.
• Hazardous material exposure associated with shipping and packaging procedures governed by DOT regulations.
• Working hours may be subject to change depending on operational necessities.
